Day Five: Exploring

The exploring part has begun. After two days of 'indoors acclimatisation' we are ready to go. A 10-minute microbus-ride took us to the local bazar, a kind of outside market with goods varying from cloths to electrical wires and encyclopedia's. I wasn't really looking for anything specific, although a nice russian book about bugs or anatomy I wouldn't have minded, but Derek was looking for some attachements to connect his antenna to the high building of K@2.

A English-Latvian-dictionary and a Russian hat richer, we'd passed 1 hour and 5 Lats but didn't find the right 'connector' yet. Plus the fact that my hands were amost frozen and there were only 1,5 hours of daylight left. In German-Dutch, Derek succeeded in getting the right thing and we headed to the closest kafejinca we could find, to get a hot chocolate which actually turned out to be an icecream thanks to my fluently Latvian..

With an hour of daylight left, we got back to our 'base' and I decided to go outside exploring the environment. Definitaly no summer outside. A windchill in my neck pushed me into the direction of the ocean. Nobody anyware. On my way to the sea, I thought about what Derek had written yesterday, and I wondered if the fascination of the decation of this part of town was mine. Without succeeding to get a straight answer on that question, I tried to find out what my own fascination is. Colours, repetitive (graphical) structures, typography, signs, symbols and details. I noticed that I'm not interested in the whole picture -without argueing about what that might be. A detail gives me a much stronger impression and leaves space for other interpretations and imagination as well. The question is how to communicate this facination.. Exactly there you have my doubts.
