Living Spaces: Colonel Seta

Colonel Seta - Defense Colony [Delhi]
Coming from a small village in Pakistan, Colonel Sethi wanted to create a similar atmosphere in Delhi. Their former house had a big courtyard, which became the main starting point of the house. Centrally located, the courtyard had to be a sunny private but outside space where both ladies - mother and daughter - could sit in the sun, taking baths or a “snooze” without being exposed to the rest of the world. Architecturally, the rest of the house was built around the courtyard, enclosing it on three sides. Sending the first architect away and declining the second drawing proposal, Mr. Sethi finally came up with his own plan which was eventually agreed on by the officials. Starting as a bungalow appartment in the 50“s, the house grew in the last sixty years to a three-story appartment building with an even grown number of inhabitants - his son with his wife and two adult children who inhabitate the first floor and a tenant who occupies the second floor.
